OLYMPIC DAY 2020
During this unprecedented time, SASCOC have been inspired by Olympians locally and around the globe with their energy and positivity. 23 June 2020 is International Olympic Day and the International Olympic Committee (IOC) is running a digital campaign called #StayStrong, which encourages people to stay healthy in body and mind during lockdown. The campaign is intended to be an inspiration to help us to get through this crisis together.
This campaign puts athletes at the heart of the Olympic community and the IOC want to build on this to inspire more people to Stay Strong, Stay Active, and Stay Healthy. On 23 June, the IOC aims to create the world’s largest 24 hour digital-first Olympic workout. As the National Olympic Committee of South Africa, we align ourselves to the prescripts of the IOC, hence we request our Membership and its affiliates and specifically our athletes to participate in this campaign.
SASCOC’s Request is as follows:
1. The campaign will be divided into two parts. The first being, #OlympicDayGoals. This will be run in the lead up to Olympic Day. In this campaign we kindly request athletes to take a short video that encompasses the Olympic Day Themes which include: LEARN, DISCOVER, MOVE. Each athlete can choose any one of these three and record a short video (20 seconds or less) informing,very briefly, of any skills they have discovered, or learnt during lockdown which does not necessarily have to be only sport related.
2. On the actual Olympic Day (23 June 2020) we will align with the IOC campaign, #StayStrong, where we kindly request athletes to record a short video (20 seconds or less) in action, any exercise perhaps 23 sit ups, 23 times skipping the rope, 23 squats or any form of exercise that is undertaken to stay strong.
For the athletes who are able to, they may also host their own live Instagram workouts on their own handles as well. If this is going to be done, please inform us and tag us @Team_mzansi with the #TeamSA #OlympicDay #StayStrong so that we can promote the athlete on our main Team SA social media pages and inform the IOC so that they can showcase our athlete as well.

RE: THE “DRUMMIE” LOCKDOWN ONLINE TOURNAMENT 2020
1. It recently came to the attention of the SAMCA Executive that various members of the SAMCA National Sport Federation have taken it upon themselves to organise an event in the form of an online competition which has been made available to past and current athletes affiliated to SAMCA. No further information regarding this event is known to SAMCA.
2. Kindly note that this event is not sanctioned by SAMCA and that the organisers have been informed accordingly.
3. While SAMCA strives to promote this sport and support initiatives that enhances the skill of the athlete members, the organisers of the event failed to follow protocol in seeking approval for such an event from the SAMCA Executive.
Note SAMCA is the official national governing body for the sport of majorettes and cheerleading in the Republic of South Africa and as such the only body with authority to sanction national and international events relevant to the sport within South Africa.
4. As such SAMCA, and all its affiliates, will be distancing itself from the event in its totality.
5. What this means for your province/region:
▪️SAMCA will not be prohibiting the athletes from partaking in the event;
▪️Athletes partaking in the event will be doing so at their own risk as SAMCA will not be accepting any liability for injuries incurred or safety and security issues arising from the event;
▪️The SAMCA logo, and the logos of the affiliates, may not be used in any form, whether on uniforms, documents or social media posts (including WhatsApp) or any other form;
▪️SAMCA will not be endorsing the results of the event and cannot comment to the impartiality or accuracy of same;
▪️Athletes and members partaking in the event remain obligated to abide by the SAMCA Constitution and SAMCA Rules when participating in the sport, whether the event is sanctioned by SAMCA or not. Special care should be taken to refrain from actions which may bring SAMCA, or its members, into disrepute.
6. We wish the organisers good luck in their endeavours.
